The disaster recovery and business continuity analyst assist in supervising the disaster recovery process and develop plans for the disaster recovery functions of the main activities of the organization. In addition, during a disaster the analyst is involved in the continued operation of the business?s infrastructure. The analyst is also assigned for long-range disaster recovery planning to provide the highest level of protection possible for the organization in an efficient and effective manner. The disaster recovery plan must be reviewed and updated on regular basis.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
?????????Plan and chart the direction of the disaster recovery process.
?????????Establishes procedures and properties for the disaster recovery process.
?????????Complies with the record management policy.
?????????Assist in managing all activities during the disaster recovery process, and during semi-annual disaster recovery testing.
?????????Works with critical systems base in Mainframe, Sun and Unix.
?????????Works closely with all related departments in developing and managing the creation of business continuity plan for all function that interfaces with the technology infrastructure.
?????????Coordinates and supervises all the special projects relating to disaster recovery process and capacity.
?????????Recognize and identifies potential areas where existing disaster recovery policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion.
?????????Capable to understand the job functions of the disaster recovery and business continuity team with whom the analyst interacts and assume its functions if needed.
?????????Interacts at a senior level with all user departments within the enterprise.
?????????Perform at above the enterprise?s information technology performance standard.
?????????Develops and maintain disaster recovery procedures with the performance standards.
?????????Develop, maintain and implement, if necessary, the disaster recovery plan as well as assist managing the entire recovery process.
?????????Practice in managing all special disaster recovery projects within the enterprise IT area.

Academic Requirements:
?????????Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering or Information Systems.

Skills:

Technical skills, Capabilities and Experience:

Not less than (17) years of experience in systems and information technology in different work environments (5) years, at least in the field of consultancy work, study and planning for integrated projects in the field of information systems and technology and lead teams, supervision and follow up their implementation, evaluation and review their performance. In addition, must have the incumbent expertise and skills need to carry out the following duties:

?????????Provide technical advice relevant to the functions of planning, management and implementation of projects of the Department.
?????????Participate in the development plans near and long-term tasks and activities.
?????????Participate in the development of training plans and work on the development of performance to the required level, and follow up the development of technical personnel. The choice of teaching methods and courses for the trainees, as appropriate, and advise the supervisor of the developments in the field of electronic data processing-related and pre-planning for the trainees. Also participate in the evaluation of software, hardware and consolidate the operation of departments under the requirements of training and development.

Mathematicians can conjure matter waves inside an invisible hat

ScienceDaily (May 29, 2012) ? Invisibility, once the subject of magic or legend, is slowly becoming reality. Over the past five years mathematicians and other scientists have been working on devices that enable invisibility cloaks -- perhaps not yet concealing Harry Potter, but at least shielding small objects from detection by microwaves or sound waves.

A University of Washington mathematician is part of an international team working to understand invisibility and extend its possible applications. The group has now devised an amplifier that can boost light, sound or other waves while hiding them inside an invisible container.

"You can isolate and magnify what you want to see, and make the rest invisible," said corresponding author Gunther Uhlmann, a UW mathematics professor. "You can amplify the waves tremendously. And although the wave has been magnified a lot, you still cannot see what is happening inside the container."

The findings are published online this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

As a first application, the researchers propose manipulating matter waves, which are the mathematical description of particles in quantum mechanics. The researchers envision building a quantum microscope that could capture quantum waves, the waves of the nanoworld. A quantum microscope could, for example, be used to monitor electronic processes on computer chips.

The authors dubbed their system "Schr?dinger's hat," referring to the famed Schr?dinger's cat in quantum mechanics. The name is also a nod to the ability to create something from what appears to be nothing.

"In some sense you are doing something magical, because it looks like a particle is being created. It's like pulling something out of your hat," Uhlmann said.

Matter waves inside the hat can also be shrunk, though Uhlmann notes that concealing very small objects "is not so interesting."

Uhlmann, who is on leave at the University of California, Irvine, has been working on invisibility with fellow mathematicians Allan Greenleaf at the University of Rochester, Yaroslav Kurylev at University College London in the U.K., and Matti Lassas at the University of Helsinki in Finland, all of whom are co-authors on the new paper.

The team helped develop the original mathematics to formulate cloaks, which must be realized using a class of engineered materials, dubbed metamaterials, that bend waves so that it appears as if there was no object in their path. The international team in 2007 devised wormholes in which waves disappear in one place and pop up somewhere else.

For this paper, they teamed up with co-author Ulf Leonhardt, a physicist at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and author on one of the first papers on invisibility.

Recent progress suggests that a Schrodinger's hat could, in fact, be built for some types of waves.

"From the experimental point of view, I think the most exciting thing is how easy it seems to be to build materials for acoustic cloaking," Uhlmann said. Wavelengths for microwave, sound and quantum matter waves are longer than light or electromagnetic waves, making it easier to build the materials to cloak objects from observation using these phenomena.

"We hope that it's feasible, but in science you don't know until you do it," Uhlmann said. Now that the paper is published, they hope to find collaborators to build a prototype.

The research was funded by the National Science Foundation in the U.S., the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the Royal Society in the U.K., and the Academy of Finland.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) ? A former Rutgers University student openly apologized for the first time on Tuesday for using a webcam to spy on a romantic liaison between a man and a roommate who later killed himself, saying he regrets his "thoughtless, insensitive, immature, stupid and childish choices."

Dharun Ravi, who had been criticized by a judge for not showing remorse and for refusing to say he was sorry, also said he will begin serving a 30-day jail term on Thursday even though he doesn't have to.

Through a lawyer, Ravi issued his most contrite public statement yet in a case that made him a symbol of what his family called an overzealous prosecution and that made his roommate, Tyler Clementi, a prime example of what gay rights advocates said were the consequences of bullying.

"I accept responsibility for and regret my thoughtless, insensitive, immature, stupid and childish choices that I made on Sept. 19, 2010, and Sept. 21, 2010," Ravi said in his statement. "My behavior and actions, which at no time were motivated by hate, bigotry, prejudice or desire to hurt, humiliate or embarrass anyone, were nonetheless the wrong choices and decisions. I apologize to everyone affected by those choices."

After spending two days repeatedly looking at the Twitter feed on which Ravi announced "I saw him making out with a dude. Yay," Clementi, a shy, talented violinist, threw himself from New York City's George Washington Bridge on Sept. 22, 2010.

In March, a jury convicted Ravi of all 15 criminal counts with which he was charged, including invasion of privacy and bias intimidation. On two of the intimidation counts, he faced up to 10 years in state prison.

Last week, a judge sentenced him to 30 days in jail. Because the sentence is less than a year, it decreases the chances that federal immigration authorities will seek to have Ravi deported to India, where he was born and remains a citizen.

Prosecutors, finding the sentence too lenient, said they would appeal.

Ravi's lawyers have said they expect to appeal the convictions entirely. They say that he was not hateful and that authorities charged him with such serious crimes because of Clementi's suicide even though he was not charged with the 18-year-old's death.

Ravi, 20, could have remained free during the appeal but instead is volunteering to head to the Middlesex County Jail in New Brunswick.

"It's the only way I can go on with my life," he said in the statement.

The apology comes as a sharp reversal in course for Ravi, whose story inspired hundreds of people to rally at New Jersey's State House calling for no prison time and changes in the state's hate crime laws.

When Ravi was sentenced, Judge Glenn Berman chastised him for not apologizing for his actions.

"I heard this jury say 'guilty' 288 times," the judge said, referring to all the sub-parts of the charges Ravi faced repeated 12 times, once for each juror. "And I haven't heard you apologize once."

During the court proceeding, Ravi, who had said in March in a newspaper interview that he was "very sorry about Tyler," chose not to address the judge, though he cried as his mother pleaded for mercy for him.

He told Newark's The Star-Ledger newspaper in an interview conducted before the sentencing but published afterward that he did not want to say he was sorry during the sentencing because he thought it would sound insincere.

During the sentencing, Clementi's brother James Clementi said that hearing an apology that late from Ravi would not be meaningful to him.

On Tuesday, the state's largest gay rights group, Garden State Equality, said it was happy Ravi had publicly apologized. But Chairman Steven Goldstein said the group was questioning the timing of the apology.

"We have mixed emotions, and so rather than take an organizational stance just yet, we have posited the question to our members on (the group's) Facebook page to ask what they think," Goldstein said.

Garden State Equality has said Ravi deserves more jail time than he received but "nowhere near" the maximum sentence he could have received.

"We have said that our hearts would be open to an apology had Ravi opened his heart up to us all," Goldstein said. "He could have apologized in a way that would not have compromised his legal position. But he came across to many of us as unremorseful both before the trial and in engineered media appearances after the verdict."

Credit 911 and virtually all of these type of debt consolidation companies are a big rip off. The interest rates are extremely high. Even over a five year period, little, if any of the principle on the consolidation loan will be paid?it is all interest.

Companies like these are a scam and a rip off.

Abstract

In a follow-up study to the ERIAL (Ethnographic Research in Illinois Academic Libraries) Project, librarians at UIC compared the responses of first-generation college freshmen from the original study to those of seniors. The study?s aim was to determine whether student information literacy increases as a result of undergraduate education and to further explore the student research process with respect to the particular factors that inform and affect change in it. The findings showed that information literacy increased among these students, and they developed a more complex approach to the research process and the library.

A laser-guided smart bullet that uses tiny fins to steer as is screams through the air is almost ready for prime time, be it a battlefield or a high-mountain deer hunt.

The bullet is under development at Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico, where it was thought up by a pair of engineers there who spend a chunk of their free time out hunting.

The four-inch-long projectile is reported to improve long-distance marksmanship by about 98 percent, at a distance between 1 and 2 kilometers.

To do so, an optical sensor in the bullet?s nose detects a laser beam shining on a distant target. The sensor sends information to guidance and control electronics that steer tiny fins that guide the bullet to the target.

Word of the smart bullet?s development first surfaced in January. Today, IEEE Spectrum reports that Sandia is wrapping up prototype tests and actively seeking a commercial partner to turn out field-ready bullets.

Larry Shippers, manager of systems technology at Sandia, told IEEE that the technology has already proven skeptics wrong ? the battery and chip survive being fired out of a .50-caliber rifle.

?Launch tests found that the monition?s innards did indeed stand up to the crushing 120,000 g-force acceleration and 344.7 megapascals (50,000 pounds per square inch) of pressure as the bullet comes hurtling out of the barrel,? the website reports.

This makes one hope the materials scientists we reported on Thursday who are working on next-generation armor hurry up and get it done.

LG's 55-inch OLED TV due in July for $10,000

LG unveiled the production version of its revolutionary 55-inch OLED to European dealers and journalists in Monaco this week?against the backdrop of the final preparations for the weekend?s Grand Prix race. The prototype was first seen at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show?in Las Vegas last January.

The company?is targeting the first shipments of the TV ?? which will cost $10,000? ? to?the United States, South?Korea and select European countries, starting?in July.

The 55EM9600?s screen is just 4 mm thick, and uses white organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) to produce a very bright, highly saturated image. LG developed its??Color Refiner??filter?technology (using four color sub-pixels?? red, green, blue and white)?to enhance image contrast and color.

Taking a cue from Formula 1 race cars, the 55EM9600 uses carbon fiber to strengthen and lighten the TV?s plastic exterior. The 9600 weighs in at just 22 pounds, a record low for a 55-Inch display (and?about 29 pounds less than LG?s 55-Inch LM8600 LED LCD).

"With OLED TV leading our premium product line-up in Europe, we have a very strong case to become the No. 1?TV brand in this region," said Stanley Cho, head of LG?s Europe Operations. "Until that day, we will continue to develop the products that have made us the most innovative home entertainment company in the industry."

LCD and LED LCDs rely on light bulbs (whether fluorescent or a few dozen white LED lamps) to illuminate the image. The light from these lamps or bulbs must pass through the LCD panel before reaching the surface of the TV, causing most of the light to be beamed toward viewers sitting closest to the center of the screen. As one moves off-center, the LCD image dims, contrast decreases and colors tend to shift and desaturate.

OLEDs emits light directly from the surface, extending the viewing angle to 180 degrees and providing superb, highly saturated colors without the dimming, color shift or loss of contrast seen on LCDs and LED LCDs.

The 55EM9600 is a full-featured HDTV incorporating LG?s passive Cinema 3-D technology as well as Smart TV Internet connectivity and its own browser for streaming movies and Web surfing.

The TV will be available in three mounting versions: table top, wall mount and pole mount. Each configuration incorporates the same OLED panel but a uses a different case. The inputs and drive electronics are located within the stand on the table top model (see photo) and features a transparent arm between the base and panel. The wall mount version and pole mount models will have a separate box that houses the electronics.

Dieting means you?re no longer required to be a member of the ?clean plate club?. Don?t be afraid to throw a few bites away. It can mean a lower calorie count in your belly and less fat on your waistline. If you absolutely can?t throw that food away, share it or pack it up.

Craving french fries? Why not make your own sweet potato fries to help satisfy your desire! If you bake them with some Cajun spices you?ll be reducing the fat found in fried potatoes and also getting a more flavorful food. If you feel the need to dip them, try mustard as a low-sugar alternative to ketchup.

If you are attempting to lose weight during the holiday season, it can be difficult with so many parties and gatherings where there are high fat, high calorie, foods and snacks served. To keep yourself on track, eat a healthy and filling meal ahead of time. You can still indulge while you are there, but you will eat less than if you had shown up hungry.

A great weight loss tip is to meditate often. Regularly performing meditation reduces your level of chronic stress. This may be hard to believe, but reducing the amount of your chronic stress actually makes your body crave foods that are healthy rather than the junk food your body normally craves when you are very stressed.
