NY crooks nab left shoe in 1 shop, right from 2nd

(AP) ? Thieves in New York City have started a new sneaker trend.

The New York Post reports (http://nyp.st/PZu5d2 ) that crooks have figured out they can steal the left shoe from the display in one store and the matching right shoe from another store's display.

The owner of one Bronx sneaker store says the thieves do their research. They know before they steal a left shoe which store has a right shoe of the same size and style on display.

A store manager in SoHo says he loses about 50 display shoes a year to thieves.

Some store owners are tying shoes to display walls so no one will walk off with them.
