3 Things You Should Start Doing Now - Operation Muffin Top ...

Did you know there are 3 things you can start doing right now to jump start your goal to become healthier and happier? Whether you?d like to lose 10 lbs, gain more energy, reduce stress or make healthier food decisions, there are certain actions you can take to immediately that will help pave the way for you. It IS possible to create a healthier lifestyle that is flexible and free of denial and discipline. How so? Well, the focus should not just be on food. Believe it or not, all areas of your life are connected ? stress at your job, lack of sleep, exercise routine, and your food choices.

That being said, you should know that you are not only fed by the food on your fork, but also by other factors in your life. A fulfilling career, healthy and stable relationships, routine physical activity and a spiritual practice are all necessary forms of nourishment. When these ?primary foods? are in balance, what you eat becomes secondary. Here are my 3 tips on how you can get some of your ?primary foods? in check so that you can really tackle your secondary food goals.

Evaluate your career. We spend more time at our jobs than we do anywhere else. If you happy with your job and feel fulfilled at the end of the day when you come home, you are one lucky duck! There are many people who are too stressed or just not happy with the people they work with or the dynamics in the office or even their everyday job functions. And if any of these statements are true, you may find yourself guilty of emotional eating when 3pm strikes or lacking energy at the end of the day. Are you running as fast as you can to the vending machine for a bag of chips and then walking over to your co-worker to vent about your boss? This is not good for the body nor the mind. Once you realize and acknowledge how you are feeling, you can begin to help yourself. If you work in an office, get up and go for a walk around the building. Get a glass of water or tea on the way back to your desk. Be open with your boss about your workload. Take deep breaths.

Work on or ditch the relationships causing you stress. We have relationships with so many people in our lives ? families, friends, spouses, mentors, co-workers, children, etc. And at times, like your job, relationships can cause stress. Eek ? a stressful job AND relationship with someone? Let?s discuss. Excess of the hormone cortisol is released into the bloodstream when your body is stressed. Cortisol helps maintain blood pressure and provide energy. It stimulates the metabolism of fats/carbs and insulin release for maintenance of blood sugar levels. As a result,?it can cause an increase in appetite in order to maintain?your energy and insulin level. During times of stress, normal patterns of cortisol levels?are disrupted. Cortisol can mix up your hunger signals and cause you to eat high fat, simple carbohydrate foods that the body can convert to energy. So, in reality, before you can allow yourself to ditch the soda and donut (or the opposite, like a skipped meal) you?ll need to ditch the stress. Stress plays a crucial role in your overall health ? I?ve experienced the all the negative effects before and I never want to experience them again!

Love yourself. Sounds simple, right? It?s not so simple for everyone. More often than not, the 4 word phrase is expressed by so many people ?I am so fat.? You are beautiful. If you are overweight, it happened for some reason or many reasons. Regardless, you can make the gradual changes that will become lifelong, but it can only begin with a positive attitude. Negativity provokes actions such as dwelling on calories, fats, carbs, proteins and restrictive lists of ?good and bad? foods. This is the last thing I want any of you to do! Every single person is unique when it comes to their dietary needs, and the journey to making yourself happier about yourself, your diet and your health can only begin with believing in yourself and recognizing you are beautiful and wonderful. Once you feel this way about yourself, self-care becomes natural. You?ll want to exercise more. You?ll want to make better food choices. And you WILL make the changes you desire to make.
